More than a shop

Named among the best independent food retailers in Devon — and a destination in its own right.

Our story

Founded by farmers, built on local food.

Churston was created by Caroline and her family — long-standing South Devon farmers — to showcase the fabulous food and drink produced in the South Hams. The shop opened its doors in 2008; Caroline’s Kitchen followed in 2011.

Independent, traditional and proudly local ever since: produce displayed like a luxury food store, meat from trusted local farms, and a history of award-winning quality.

Two priorities: sell quality, and sell local.

The South Hams boasts some of the most productive and fertile farmland in the UK — and it’s where our shelves begin. The rest is the pick of the West Country, Britain’s foremost food and drink region, with specialities you simply won’t find in a supermarket.

The Farm Shop

Old-fashioned, personal service. Seriously good food.

Local fruit and vegetables, West Country cheeses, cooked meats, homemade pasties and desserts — plus a complete menu of ready meals prepared by our on-site chefs, fresh or frozen. We’ll even cut your butter to size.

The Butchery

Grass-fed. 28-day hung. Properly butchered.

28-day hung, grass-fed Aberdeen Angus beef and lamb — among the tastiest meat you’ll find anywhere — and our butchers turn it into a huge range of speciality foods, from pasties to pastrami.

Caroline’s Kitchen

The South Hams on a plate.

Open since Easter 2011 and named after Caroline herself, our café made its name on one idea: cook the same award-winning produce that’s on the shop shelves, and cook it properly, on site — from the famous Churston Breakfast to proper cream teas.

Serving times vary seasonally — call 01803 845837 for this week’s hours.
